How to Set Up Your Email Account
This guide will walk you through the process of migrating to our new, enhanced email platform. By following these four steps, you will update your credentials, add modern security layers to protect your data, and reconnect your devices to our secure servers. Completing this process ensures your communication remains uninterrupted and your information stays secure.
Step 1: Set Your New Password
Updating your password is the first and most vital step in the migration process. By replacing the temporary password with a private one, you ensure that you are the only person who can access your account on the new system.
1. Open your web browser and go to https://skystream.email
2. Type in your full Email Address and the temporary Password you were provided, then click Sign In.
3. You will be prompted to update your credentials. Enter the temporary password again in the Current Password box, then type your new chosen password into the New Password box.
4. Click the Change Password button. Your new, private password is now active.
Step 2: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication adds an essential second layer of protection to your email. Even if someone were to discover your password, they would still be unable to access your account without the unique, expiring code generated by your mobile phone.
1. In the sidebar menu on the left side of your screen, click Two-factor Auth.
2. Open your preferred authenticator app on your mobile device (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, etc).
3. Tap the plus (+) icon in your mobile app and choose Scan a QR Code. Use your phone’s camera to scan the square QR code displayed on your computer screen.
4. Your phone will display a 6-digit code. Enter that code into the box on your screen and click Enable 2FA.
5. If successful, your account is now secured. Your app should now list this account as "Stalwart Mail: [email protected]"
Step 3: Create Application Passwords
Modern security standards require "App Passwords" for third-party software like Outlook or iPhone Mail. This keeps your main account password hidden from these apps and allows you to revoke access for a specific device if it is ever lost or stolen, without having to change your password everywhere else.
1. In the sidebar menu, click App Passwords.
2. Click the + Add password button at the top right of the page.
3. In the Application Name box, type a label for the device you are setting up (e.g., "Sarah’s iPhone" or "Microsoft Outlook").
The system will generate a secure password for you. You can use this one or type in your own. Keep this password visible or write it down, as you will need it for the final step.
* Important: For security reasons, do not use the main account password you created in Step 1.
5. Click Create. Repeat these steps for every device or mail app you use.
Step 4: Connect Your Devices
This final step links your software to our new servers so you can send and receive mail. Entering these specific settings ensures your device knows exactly how to securely communicate with the Skystream hosting network.
Open the settings in your email application (like Outlook, Apple Mail, or Gmail) and enter the following details when prompted:
Password: Use the unique App Password you created in Step 3 for this specific device.
